After (I thought) solving this issue, I've found that subscriptions will not download. It took a few days for me to realize that out of 37 subscriptions, half of which should see some daily activity, I had no new posts in any of them. I tried resetting ALL feeds, and still nothing downloaded. Based on the dates of newest posts, I don't hold out much hope for receiving any help or response, though I must say that up until now I've LOVED the reader, so I'm going to post the steps I take and results I receive here. Hopefully, it will help if anyone had the same problem. If you don't want to read the entire history, skip to the bottom; I've extracted the steps I believe will solve the problem.
The problem started on 5/29/07.
I am using Windows XP SP2, Outlook 2003, and intraVnews 1.2.2187.20200 (currently, the newest release).
I started Outlook and the intraVnews installer ran, as if I had just installed. I completed the app settings dialogue, and found that all my subscriptions had disappeared.
After copying the feeds_backup.xml to feeds.xml in both the Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews and \\Outlook folders a couple of times, the backed up version of feeds.xml finally took, and my subscriptions were back.
I went through and reconfigured the folders to deliver the posts to the correct locations.
For 4 days, I received no new subscription posts.
I reset the feed history on all subscriptions, but still received no posts.
I exported my subscriptions to OPML, unsubscribed from all subscriptions, and imported the OPML.
My folder configurations were gone, so I re-configured the folders, and once again, reset the feed history. Nothing.
I copied categories.xml, feeds.xml, feeds_backup.xml, profiles.xml and appsettings.xml to a backup folder.
I unchecked the intraVnews toolbar from the Outlook toolbar and closed Outlook, then uninstalled intraVnews, checking the Remove Settings and Subscriptions box when prompted during uninstall.
I reinstalled intraVnews and copied the backed up xml files to Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews and started Outlook. Outlook flashed open for a sec, then I received the error message "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists." I clicked OK, and deleted the copied xml files from the intraVnews folder.
I tried to open Outlook again, and got the same error.
I uninstalled intraVnews again, selecting the Remove Settings and Subscriptions box, and reinstalled.
I copied over the xml files except for the profiles.xml, and got the same Outlook error message. I deleted the copied xml files, restarted my computer, and started Outlook. This time I was prompted to browse to intraVnews.pst. I hit Cancel, and got an error message "The file C:\\Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews\\Outlook\\intraVnews.pst could not be found." I clicked OK. and was prompted again for the pst file. I clicked cancel and was not prompted again. The intraVnews toolbar did not appear in Outlook.
I uninstalled intraVnews again, selecting the Remove Settings and Subscriptions box, restarted my computer, and reinstalled.
I started Outlook without copying over the backed up xml files, and once again received the ""The file C:\\Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews\\Outlook\\intraVnews.pst could not be found." error message. I clicked OK and was prompted to browse to the file, which did not exist.
After reading another post about this issue, I located the "Personal Folders" folder and closed it, then shut down and restarted Outlook. This time the app settings wizard came up.
I completed the app settings wizard. Now everything is screwed up; Outlook has somehow tied intraVnews' Personal Folders to my existing Personal Folders, and when I try to access any of my regular email folders, I get an error message that states that they're being accessed and are unavailable. I closed intraVnews' Personal Folders again, but was still unable to access my email folders. I shut down and restarted Outlook. Now intraVnews' Personal Folders are closed, and I can access my email folders.
I found the activation code in my email, and activated intraVnews. I imported my OPML backup, then went through and reconfigured my folders. I checked the feeds, and voila! After two or three hours of troubleshooting, I have new posts! The posts are all posts, as if after resetting the feed history, so now I can clean them out and hopefully won't have any more issues.
STEPS TO SOLVE PROBLEM:
1. IF YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE EMPTY (otherwise, skip this step):
In Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews and/or Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews\\Outlook, locate the feeds_backup.xml, copy it to Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews\\feeds.xml, and check Outlook again. Your subscriptions should be there. If for some reason they're not, keep closing Outlook, copying the backup to feeds.xml and checking until it is. For some reason, it took 4 or 5 times of my doing this to get my subscriptions to show.
2. Backup xml files in Documents and Settings\\[User]\\Application Data\\intraVnews (you won't necessarily use them, but I'm a big believer in backups, just in case).
3. Export your subscriptions to an OPML file using the intraVnews toolbar: Select Subscriptions, and in the Subscriptions window, select the Subscriptions menu item, then "Export OPML...". I exported to my desktop for ease of browsing for import.
4. Uninstall intraVnews, selecting "Remove Settings and Subscriptions" box when prompted.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Reinstall intraVnews.
7. Open Outlook.
8. If prompted for intraVnews.pst, cancel, select OK on any error messages. Locate the new "Personal Folders" folder created by intraVnews, right-click and close it. Restart Outlook. You should get the app settings wizard.
9. Complete the app settings wizard. Find your activation code and enter it under "Help", "Licensing" in the Subscriptions window.
10. Go to Subscriptions on the intraVnews toolbar, and in the Subscriptions window, select the Subscriptions menu item, them "Import OPML...". Import your OPML subscriptions backup.
11. If you need to reconfigure your folders, do so before continuing with subscriptions, then check all your feeds.
